Two Heat Sources, One Smart Control
A hybrid system, also called dual fuel, pairs an electric heat pump with a gas or propane furnace or boiler. The heat pump is your main source of heat. The gas or propane system is your backup. A smart control decides which one to run, so you never have to think about it.
How It Works All Year
- Summer: The heat pump runs as your air conditioner.
- Spring and fall: The heat pump heats your home, quietly and efficiently.
- Most winter days: The heat pump keeps doing the work.
- The coldest days: When it gets very cold outside, the control switches to your gas or propane heat. When the cold snap is over, it switches back to the heat pump.

May Qualify for a Mass Save Rebate
A hybrid system may qualify for the Mass Save partial-home heat pump rebate. The heat pump must be on the Mass Save qualified list, and the system must use an approved integrated control so the heat pump and your gas or propane heat work together. High Flow is a Heat Pump Installer Network contractor (HPIN HP252059), and we help you with the paperwork.
Rebate amounts and eligibility are set by Mass Save and Cape Light Compact and can change.
